The Dekalb Academy of Technology and the Environment (DATE) curriculum is a hands-on, minds-on, problem-solving, inquiry-based, integrated curriculum which will provide students with a foundation for understanding the world and their place in it. Starting in Grade 3, students begin the Robotics program where they learn :
- basic mechanics
- build projects
- logic blocks
- EV3 robots
- Team & Individual Projects
The Pathway program goes from 5th to 8th grade. The Program includes one of the three pathways with a 4 year track. The pathway courses will be available on an A/B day rotation. On the day of the pathway course, students will report to that class for all four 9 weeks of the school year. On the opposite days, students will still be in a random 9 week rotation of the traditional specials’ courses.
Students previously enrolled in band have been automatically enrolled in the performing arts pathway. The band and drama instruction will emphasize students’ abilities to participate in productions for the school community and other regional competitions.
Students enrolled in this pathway will take the animation course during the first semester of each year. The instruction will include storyboarding, Pixel Art, 2D and 3D animation. Students will gain the ability to apply storytelling and creativity to produce their own narratives.

All students in Grade 5 will have the opportunity to experience all exploratory specials offered at D.A.T.E. These include: health, physical education, environmental science, computer literacy/technology, and drama.
From plant sciences to geography, D.A.T.E. offers a wide variety of environmental science studies that focus on the world we live in.
D.A.T.E. provides physical education including activities and sports, as well as the study of health/wellness.

The D.A.T.E. curriculum includes digital literacy education to promote cognitive and critical thinking.
Robotics plays an integral role in many fields of Technology and Engineering. This covers basic skills & programming to more complex skill sets, such as life application projects in team and individual settings. Elementary robotics utilizes fun and engaging programs and platforms which incorporate software, hardware and workable robots.
Students will learn how to produce and operate Drones as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or unmanned aircraft systems (UASes) t that can be remotely controlled or fly autonomously through software-controlled flight plans in their embedded systems, working in conjunction with onboard sensors and GPS.
To advance education in the subjects of sustainable engineering and technology to young people. Greenpower runs engineering challenges for schools based around designing and building a single seat electric powered race car.

Teaching the youth about sustainable and green technologies is a joy of STEAM Teams and we offer a variety of courses on Electrical Theory and Photovoltaic Systems, including hands on projects such as building a power station and measuring inputs/outputs. We inform students of the Global implications of energy choices and how to evaluate power use efficiently.
The S.T.E.A.M. Bus comes to your location to provide a “hands on” learning expedition field trip. Students will be able to step into a (mobile lab school bus) world of exploration and discovery, while understanding various concepts of S.T.E.A.M. Our students at the Academy will guide your children into a unique world of technology turbulence and enhance their creative imagination and artistic ability around science.
Environmental Science is the study of interrelationships between human activities and the environment. The approach to learning is designed to empower students and prepare them to deal with complexity, diversity, and change. Scholars will develop a sense of social responsibility, communication skills, analytical and problem solving skills that will prepare them to demonstrate their ability to apply knowledge and skills in real-world settings.learn more
